WAYS Youth and Family - Not just another youth organisation

by Kim (follow)
For the past 41 years, WAYS Youth and Family has evolved over the years to be an organisation for the community. It once started as a youth drop-in centre, but now is a youth and family hub for counselling, OOSH, VET Training Institute and alternative high school for 9–12-year students.

WAYS Youth and Family are passionate about creating a community of young people. They want youth and their families to be able to make healthy lifestyle choices about their education and vocational options, recreational activities and health and well-being thus enabling their full participation and success in society. WAYS are open to everyone in the community being someone who is in need or a busy parent who is needing an OOSH service or an 18-year-old who needs VET training after leaving high school. Because WAYS is about providing a holistic approach to our companies’ values, each one of the programs offers more than an education or 'minding' approach. It is about making the youth or families part of the WAYS community and working with them one on one if they need to succeed.

WAYS recently surveyed the community that was about how do you know WAYS and what do you think the company is. They were surprised to hear that during the 41 years of being operational, WAYS is still known as a youth organisation for kids in need and a lot of community members who have been living in Bondi for over 15 years, didn’t know that they offered an OOSH or Youth VET training services.

Dr Terri Said, CEO of WAYS, has a vision to grow all youth and community programs so that WAYS can exceed a professional standard of commercial offerings and meaningfully meet the needs of the whole community. WAYS will continue to grow and be channelled with meaningful impact into the broader community.

Dr Terri Said explains that “the WAYS mission for the past 41-years has been to empower youth & families to create successful and meaningful pathways to the future. We need to be able to evolve with the times as well. Our OOSH program and Youth Training have incredible growth potential. These programs are relatively newer initiatives, and are in their infancy in terms of growth”.

The WAYS Programs include:
WAYS Secondary: Alternative Independent high school.
WAYS Wellness Centre: Psychologists, case management and G.P services.
WAYS Youth Space: Fun and safe environment to hang out with themed youth days, DJ events and Music Festivals, and band room.
WAYS Youth Training: VET courses from Certificate II through Diploma for Youth.
WAYS OOSH: Interactive and Innovative after school care and vacation care.
