If it's true that a dog is a man's best friend, why can't we take him or her out to eat with us? Some clever cafes in Sydney have long realised our devotion to our four-legged friends, and are enjoying a wave of popularity in this age of pet appreciation.
So, this one is for all the mums out there - with fur babies, that is. Sydney Mums Group has some great ideas for dining out with dogs, or catching a cuppa with cats...
When a café has been around since 2000, you know you are onto a good thing. Café Bones™ promotes itself as the ultimate destination for dogs and their two-legged pets — a place to relax and enjoy a coffee (or Pupaccino™).
This café prides itself on offering a quality menu for humans and dogs to enjoy, including its trademark dog refreshment - Pupaccino and gourmet dog biscuits.
Chew Chew is a gourmet dog restaurant with dine in and takeaway menus, and birthday party events. I would recommend this for anyone who has set up an Instagram account especially for their dog, rather than themselves. Here, canines comes first!
Chew Chew's unique selling point is that its staff can confidently eat any of the (fully organic) foods served in the restaurant. Can you eat what you serve your pet? My answer would be a firm, no.
Japanese dog nutritionist Naoko, clearly shows a passion for pooch food in her menus, and a brilliant idea for a pet-friendly business.
NB. It's BYO coffee for owners who'd like to 'eat in' with their pets - pet menu only.
Café Purrfection at the Chatswood Cat Palace Location: 30-32 Barcoo Street, Roseville
The philosophy behind this innovative café is a little different... it's not technically a place to take your cat for a bite to eat. It's more of a 'pets as therapy'-type concept.
The idea is that you book a session at the cat café:- anyone can enjoy the magic of ‘CAT-fection’ whilst petting and cuddling rescue cats and kittens living at the (Cat) Palace. Plus, the coffee is free.
If you've just lost a pet, or perhaps want to see how your child might relate to bonding with a cat, come and meet the felines at this feel-good café. As former rescue cats, the resident animals have been temperament selected for customers i.e. they are favourable to petting and cuddling (no scratches here!)
Sydney Cat Café - OPENING SOON Location: on the search for the perfect premises in the inner city
This feline-friendly café is one to get excited about. It's a Kickstarter project and the business owners are seeking the perfect location. With a professional website, social media channels and community funding behind them, you know this bunch are serious. They have also been hosting some hugely popular pop-up events, such as yoga with kittens (Cats on Mats), which have been sold out.
Taking the philosophy of Café Purrfection even further, this café will offer patrons the chance to pet and cuddle friendly rescue kitties but also adopt them! And, the café will serve human treats, including barista coffee.
To hear of future pop-up events and news on the Café's opening, follow the business on Facebook.
