Sydney is very lucky to have loads of kid friendly art galleries but perhaps the best and most welcoming of them all, is the Museum of Contemporary Art (MCA) at Circular Quay.

The MCA has been welcoming families with open arms for over 25 years. They clearly believe that you need to inspire artists from a very young age as they have loads of different classes available for little people all year long. There are weekly Art Play classes for 0-5 year olds during the school term, and Art Safaris for 3-5 years old where they put on an art explorer cape, and go searching through the galleries on different themed art hunts.

Once a month the MCA hosts Sunday Family Funday where as a fambam you can complete a family activity trail throughout the gallery. Then afterwards you can create an artwork as a group to take home and keep. The MCA's school holiday programs are also worth checking out, as they are sure to keep your school aged kids creative and occupied at the same time.
The Sydney Crochet Club meets fortnightly to learn crochet, meet other Sydney mums, and have a good chat. Whether you're a complete beginner or a seasoned pro, everyone is welcome to come along!
When you are all "arted" out, you can fill your bellies at one of the MCA's two eateries. The Graze Restaurant on the ground floor, is quite upmarket and better suited for a special occasion meal when dining as a family. They do have a basic kids menu that is quite expensive ($18.00 for fish & chips), so when we visit, we prefer to venture up to the roof top level (lvl 4) and dine at the MCA Cafe which is a tad more affordable. This cafe is laid back and does a great Kids Lunch Box for $16.00 which includes a chicken sandwich, piece of fruit, cookie and kids size milkshake. The views up here are spectacular, so if you are low on cash just pop up for a coffee, as they do a great brew of Campos coffee.

Entry to the MCA is FREE! They always have awesome displays on in their various galleries which will have kids (and adults) either giggling or fascinated for a long period of time. So next time you are looking for a family friendly outing that everyone will enjoy, head to the city and check out Sydney's iconic Museum of Contemporary Art.
