The lovely Market By The River is held on the 1st Saturday of each month in Halvorsen Park at Ermington - and yes it's right on Parramatta River. The market has an excellent mix of quality fresh food, flowers, drinks, artisan produce and handmade craft stalls.
You will find the market right in the middle of the new residential area in Ermington. Halvorsen Park is the main green space for all of the residents who llive in the surrounding apartment blocks. As well as the park being right by the river, it also has a fabulous playground.
When you first arrive at the Market By The River, the best idea is to grab a coffee (there were 2 coffee vans operating the morning we visited) and then take a wander around all of the stalls to see what is on offer. Once you are fully caffeinated, do a second round and start purchasing! Or eating. The food stalls available all smell so delicious and include the ubiquitous Gozleme ladies; freshly made crepes from SaCrepe Bleu; freshly baked pastries, pies and bread from Sheperd's Bakehouse; and big burgers from Jarrod's Shakes n Snags. There's loads more on offer, but there's only so much one can eat in a morning!
Our favourite purchases on the day were the beautiful fresh flowers (the flowers are still perfect 2 weeks later); the cupcake lady who sold baby cupcakes for $2.00 a pop; and the delicious smoked trout from Dos Juans Fine Food. Stall holders come from far and wide including Near River Produce, all the way from Wauchope up on the Mid North Coast and Little Creek Cheese from the Central Coast.
Just to let you know parking can be a bit tricky in this part of Ermington! The surrounding streets are normally full of the cars of the local residents who live in the apartments blocks. So either make sure you arrive early, or be prepared to walk a little bit to the market.
If you are a producer, baker, artist or food maker, Market By The River is always on the lookout for new stall holders to join their market. For more information on the market and the opportunities available, you can get in contact with the organisers at: email@example.com
