Sydney Mums Group facilitates a number of smaller local groups which meet up once a month at a local park, cafe, or playground.
The purpose of these groups is to provide a way for mums to meet other mums who live in their area. Having the friendship and support of other people who are living the same experience as you is essential for the mental health of every mum.
To see the list of groups, and to sign up for one, use this link.
Joining a group is free.
Local group members are encouraged to join a dedicated closed Facebook group, where members can communicate and chat. You will receive a link to this group upon signing up.
An official event is held for each group every 4 weeks. When an event is approaching for your group you’ll be reminded via email. The email will also contain a link to a post in the Facebook group which members can use to suggest locations for the meetup.
Two days before the event members will be notified, again by email, of the decided location.
Events are unhosted (there is no official person attending) and obviously all children are welcome! Members are encouraged to tie a red ribbon to their pram so that they can be recognised by other members.
Group veterans should be welcoming, inclusive, and friendly to all new members of the group. Remember what it was like when you first joined up, and try to extend the same courtesy to others. Take the initiative and introduce yourself to get the conversation started!
The closed Facebook group can be used to arrange casual meetups outside of the official events. Members are encouraged to exchange emails and phone numbers. We hope that many members will become friends and socialise outside of the groups as well as continue to help welcome and make friends with new members.
The usual disclaimer: Sydney Mums Group arranges these events for mums to meet other mums. No staff member attends the events and we can take no responsibility for any loss or injury that occurs. Although apart from the occasional spilt coffee we cannot think of too much that could go wrong!
