It seems like everyone is chasing something today. Whether it’s love, money, a project, or some other goal, many adults are busier than ever. Modern life is demanding. We have devices that make us available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Work doesn’t always mean 9 to 5, and then on top of that there’s family to juggle. Getting it all done often means forgetting what’s important: slowing down and enjoying life. The good news is that there are several things you can do to give yourself a little “me” time and recharge your batteries each week.
1. A Glass of Wine and a Good Book
Pour a well-deserved glass of wine and get comfortable with your favourite book or magazine. Find a quiet place and enjoy some time sipping away while turning the pages. Dim the lights to allow your mind to relax along with your body. If your kids are anything like mine than more often than not this is a night time activity for once the little ones are in bed, leaving you with peace and quiet to focus on the moment.
2. Hire a Helper to Clean Your Home
The environment you immerse yourself in can have a powerful impact on your well being. Hiring a helper to clean your home is a great way to reduce stress and maintain a healthy living space for you and your family. This can also be used as a way to free up time to do the things you love (or maybe time to do some of the things listed here). It’s one less task on your busy schedule, and it will create an atmosphere that invites relaxation and happiness. There are a number professional cleaning services available that are trustworthy and reliable. I use
Connect Cleaners and love coming home to a clean house every fortnight (they also leave me wine or chocolate as a present

3. Enjoy a Muscle-Relaxing Massage
Massage therapy can be amazing for your mind and body. You may not realise how much tension stays in your muscles until someone works it out for you. Studies have shown that massage can help alleviate anxiety, headaches, insomnia, and joint pain as well as discomfort from injuries and other health conditions.
There are different types that address different needs. For example, if you want a gentler touch to energise and relax, Swedish massage is a good choice. If you have an injury or an overused muscle, Trigger Point massage may be better. And if you live a physically active lifestyle, consider Sports massage. Luckily in Sydney there are a number of massage choices. If you happen to live on the Eastern Suburbs I highly recommend
BodyBright massage therapy.
4. A Cup of Herbal Tea & Fresh Air
Just 20 minutes spent sitting outside in the fresh air can do wonders for your mental state. On nice days, make a cup of your favorite herbal tea (or iced tea if it’s warm outside) and lounge on the porch or in the backyard. It can help to have a recliner, hammock, or something that lets you put your feet up while enjoying a moment in the sun or shade. Try to allot at least 20 to 30 minutes to just sit and sip. You can always stay outside longer if your schedule allows.
5. Take a Walk Through Nature
Nature can be very therapeutic for a mind that’s crowded and busy. Find a local hiking trail and set aside time each week to walk it. Look for something that suits your physical ability. Some trails are easier than others and some are shorter. While this is good exercise for your body, the focus should remain on taking your time and enjoy the scenery and sounds. Don’t worry so much about walking faster or harder. The walks along the coast of Sydney are some of the most beautiful and relaxing walks in the world. Coogee To Bondi is my go to but you can see lots more
here .
