Sometimes you just need to escape the rat race and recharge your batteries. Here are 5 of our favourite places to go for a quick getaway from Sydney:

Located less than a 90 minute drive from Sydney, the picturesque Southern Highlands are a slice of country paradise. Make sure you visit all of the quaint villages in the area like Bundanoon, Moss Vale, Mittagong, Berrima and Bowral. They are full of fabulous shops, cafes and pretty parks.

This is a favourite getaway for many city families and that's because it's an easy 60 minute drive away. There's so much to see and do (as well as eat) up in the Mountains. It's a great place to visit at anytime of the year and the best place to recharge your batteries when you need some clean mountain air.

The serenity of this place is amazing. It's as if once you see the Lake all of your worries will disappear! Lake Macquarie is almost twice the size of Sydney Harbour and it takes just over an hour to get there from the north of Sydney. This is definitely an outdoors kind of weekend, so pack the joggers, hats and sunscreen and get out and enjoy everything Lake Macquarie has to offer.
