It's In The Bag is a wonderful concept created by a charity called Share The Dignity. Share The Dignity help to provide sanitary items like tampons and pads for women who cannot afford to buy their own. They hold drives twice a year where you can donate product to this amazing cause. Their motto is: "We believe sanitary items should be a right NOT a privledge."
However they also saw a need at Christamas time to help out women who are doing it tough. A lot of charities focus on underpriviledged children at this time of year, which is wonderful. However, Share The Dignity wanted to give something to the mothers of these kids who normally have to scarifice so much for their beloved children. As a result, It's In The Bag came to life.
Basically they ask everyday women (like us), to grab a handbag that they longer use, and fill it with essentails items that all women need (plus a few luxuries if you can afford it). Once your bag is filled, you can drop it off at a collection point in Sydney. From there it goes to Share The Dignity, who then pass it on to the various charities and shelters who work at the grass roots levels of society.
So what can you put in the bag?
Baby wipes, cleansing wipes, tissues
Shampoo and conditioner, shampoo in a can
Toothpaste and toothbrush
Hair ties and hair brush
Movie voucher, gift voucher, meal voucher
Jewellery or trinket
Lotions, creams, smelly stuff
Socks and Undies
Everything should be brand new (except the handbag). It would also be nice to include a note from yourself to just say hi!
Please note that the following cannot be placed in the bags and will be removed:
NO FOOD, PHARMACEUTICALS OR SHARPS
